Here's some inspiration for the weekend!

Be inspired this weekend! Enjoy one of my favorite songs performed by inimitable Eva Cassidy. This song is a classic Academy award winning song that was written in 1939 for the movie The Wizard of Oz and was  originally sung by Judy Garland. It later became this actress's signature song. Over the Rainbow also ranked number one of the Songs of the Century list compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America. Listen to this ballad's rendition by Eva Cassidy and click to read the lyrics below.

International Women's Day?

Image from this website
Growing up in Ukraine I've been told since my childhood that the "International Women's Day" is celebrated around the world. Much to my surpirse, I came to find out that the "international" meant "in the communist countries only," and over time it remained greatly popular only in the former Soviet countries.

As the celebration continues throughout the weekend I would like to share two encouraging and ironic songs about being a woman, from the point of view of a teenager and a grown man. Since American culture is shaped and molded by musicals, both of the songs will be taken from some of the most popular musicals, Bye Bye Birdie and My Fair Lady. Today's song is performed by Ann Margret and is a confession of a young girl called How Lovely to Be a Woman. Enjoy!

81. Intermediate Listening: Eva Cassidy - Autumn Leaves

The beauituful voice of Eva Cassidy performing "Autumn Leaves" by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Joseph Kosma (music) seems to penetrate through your skin, the sound of guitar welling your eyes with tears. Eva Cassidy died in 1996 of cancer, a 33-year-old leaving behind a legacy of moving songs like these. Even though we are in the middle of winter, listen to this song and simply enjoy. The exercises are in the comments line.
